Why do dental prices vary from one practice to another, even for the same treatment?
Prices can vary between different offices. Different doctors and their education level can be one reason, but also the advanced technology versus outdated technology can make a difference. At our office, our technology is advanced, and it can help Dr. Marks diagnose things and catch them before it's too late.
Can differences in a dentist's training or specialization impact pricing?
Differences in training between dentists can definitely impact the pricing, but it is usually, as they say, you get what you pay for. If it costs more, it is probably because the doctor is trained more on that and has better education on it.
What roles do factors like location, staffing, and in-office equipment play in setting fees?
Equipment and staffing can affect pricing because if we have more advanced technology, that will make pricing more expensive, per se.
However, that is because we are catching things like root canals before it's to the point where we have to actually take the tooth out. We are always proactive in our work with saving teeth rather than pulling them.
What should patients consider when comparing prices between dental offices to ensure they're comparing fairly?
When comparing prices between different offices, I would definitely look at the technology they're using and how they explain it to you and the time they take with you. Being in-network can make offices have to rush through things and possibly charge more for things to make up for being in-network and having to do write-offs with those insurance companies.
It's not always the case; sometimes it is cheaper being in-network. However, usually, going out of network is more expensive for the patient, but it is because they're getting better care.
